Designer Highlight: Kara Ross

A few weekends ago while wondering downtown, David and I landed at Nordstrom for an unplanned shopping trip! Now this little lady is a professional shopper. But this was a retail adventure more awe-stricken than most. The reason, 4 words —  Kara Ross trunk show.

I have been eyeing her collections for months and watching as her beautifully crafted pieces showed up in magazines and on celebrities everywhere! So,the trunk show was without a doubt a fabulous surprise.

Kara Ross is known for her designs using exotic skins and precious stones. If you go to her site, there are  fabulous guides on the types of skins and stones she uses. Along with jewelry, there are also handbags and belts. Check out the full line at KaraRossNY.com. Here are a few of my favorites along with pics of the super cool ’Snake Bite’ ring I purchased.

Happy Friday, everyone!! Be sure to check out my guest post at SeerOutfitters.com today. Seer Outfitters is a fabulous clothing line that supports the Kyle Korver Foundation, an organization founded by Bull’s player Kyle Korver and his brother Klayton that takes on charitable initiatives for kids across the country. Tons of great Ts and hoodies for fall! Shop for a cause!

Here are some pics from the shoot. The post is centered around the launch of the Inside Out line and features multiple ways to wear one tank.

Let me know if you have questions about any of the pieces I am wearing.

All-American Style: Denim

I am totally digging the relaxed all-American girl look showing up in street style lately! There is something so rugged yet girl-next-door about denim on denim. To execute the look, make sure you are mixing two different washes of denim. This can be achieved with a light chambray shirt and dark jeans like the ones I am wearing here. Speaking of jeans — you must invest in some bootcut or flared jeans for Fall. They are a fabulous alternative to skinny jeans and look great with a nice heel or wedge.

This picture totally cracks me up. It looks like a scene from Charlie’s Angels right before a giant explosion erupts on the horizon. I guess we will call it my drama debut! Anyways, my reason for including it is — the pink lipstick. I am absolutely obsessed with dramatic lip colors right now. They are the perfect pop to an otherwise neutral ensemble! My favorite line is Cover Girl Lip Perfection. They have so many beautiful hues, and the lipstick glides on smoothly and even moisturizes. Here, I am wearing Cover Girl Lip Perfection in Divine.

Shoes Gone Wild: Brian Atwood Edition

With recent events like FNO, the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and now London Fashion Week, I have found myself wondering, “where do designers get their inspiration?” Where do their ideas  come from and how do they translate into the beautiful pieces gliding down the cat walk.

On September 8, I had the pleasure of meeting the gorgeous (sorry David), Brian Atwood at the Saks Fifth Avenue Fashion’s Night Out Event. Reflecting on the evening and my encounter with the shoe king himself, I have realized that inspiration is everywhere and that designers are a gifted group of individuals that are able to pull that inspiration from the world and transform it into the walking pieces of art we wear every day.

Without further adieu, I give you today’s post featuring pieces from Brian Atwood’s Fall Collection. This is my interpretation of inspiration in its most natural state. A special thanks to my fiance, David, for making this possible with his mad Photoshop skills! Enjoy!

Electric Pink Prepster

I am absolutely loving the vibrant highlighter colors that are showing up in collections right now. And judging by the J crew 2012 Spring Collection on the Fashion Week runway today, these colors are here to stay. My favorite being — electric pink! Pops of color are a great way to give old trends, like the preppy one I am rocking here a new life. My favorite part about this outfit are the wonderful Miu Miu heels David got me for my birthday this year. Classic with a twist. Too good to be true!

Metal Mania

So, I am really into the mixed metal trend and decided to do a little “Ode to Metal” outfit. To jazz up this LBD, I layered multiple textures of gold and silver accessories on top. I love that matte, sparkle and shine alike can go together and be fashionable!!! No more matchy matchy ladies! Get a little crazy with your outfit toppers! AND if you are feeling really jazzy — add some leopard for a “call to the wild affect.” It is your time to SHINE. So pridefully rock your favorite trends TOGETHER and be this season’s fashion guru.

Doe Eyes Recreation

As I am sure you have realized, I love experimenting with make-up. I have been wanting to try the mod eye look since I saw the “Doe Eyes” post on seaofshoes.com back in April. As Jane puts it, this bambi-eyed look gives the eyes great definition making them appear almost doll-like.

To achieve the look, I started with a matte eyeshadow all over the lid and then lined the lower and upper lash-line with a black liquid eyeliner. Because I wanted to create a more subtle look, I opted for a shadow liner in the crease instead of the liquid to achieve a softer line. I applied a black eyeshadow using an angular liner brush tracing the outline of my crease and socket. I then blurred the line with a q-tip. Mascara was applied very heavily with lashes clumped together to get the spidery effect. The rest of the face was kept simple with a light matte foundation and nude lip.

Tip of the day: Try using an angled liner brush like this one to mix up your eye make-up routine. You can use any shadow as a liner and you get a softer look.

Happy Humpday!

Chambray Lady

Love, love, love that booties are so big this fall. I plan on pairing them with EVERYTHING! Not going to lie — my love affair with boots has been going on for quite some time now. Disclaimer, I rocked cowboy boots at my college graduation and it was — glorious! Anyways, have to keep this post short and sweet today. David and I are heading to Disney World for the long weekend and still need to pack!

Tip of the day: Start pairing booties with all skirt and dress lengths in your wardrobe and as the weather cools off add tights and a jacket to those same ensembles to lengthen your clothes shelf-life.

Have a fabulous long weekend everyone!
